I received this email and pass it along as it may be of interest to
others. I know nothing about the project, the publishers, or their
reliability- so- caveat emptor!

Frederick W. Danker’s pioneer study Benefactor: Epigraphic Study of a
Graeco-Roman and New Testament Semantic Field (St. Louis: Clayton
Publishing House, 1982; 509 pp.) is out of print, but we have a limited
inventory of new books still available. This work is basic to the study
of the New Testament in its social, cultural and political context.
Commentators have noted the light this study sheds on numerous passages
of the New Testament. Epigraphs (documents inscribed on stone) are in
some respects more valuable than papyri. Most of them have been found in
regions and cities visited by St. Paul. Many of his words and idioms
receive bright illumination from decrees relating to benefactors in his
world, ranging from veterinarians to kings and deities. Danker was the
first to show the extent to which the theme of beneficence penetrated
the New Testament, and his work is regularly cited in studies of the
world of the New Testament. The book contains translations of 53
inscriptions and 170 pages of commentary on words and terms relating to
usage in the New Testament, with an index of all passages referenced in
the book.
