I would add that in some languages, including Biblical Greek (ETI),  
French (encore) and German (noch), both English words are conveyed by  
a single word in the other language.
ETI means "as of the current moment in relation to the past" as HDH  
means "as of the current moment in relation to the future."

SKOTIAS (not STOTIAS) ETI OUSHS means that it was still dark, that  
the dawn had not yet illuminated the scene. There's not really any  
ambiguity in the description.
