The referent of TOUTO in TOUTO hO QEOS hUMIN APOKALYPEI is the phrase EI TI hETERWS FRONEITE.

290. hOUTOS is used (1) to point to someone present (deictic): Mt 3:17 hOUTOS ESTIN hO hUIOS MOU, etc.; to someone previously mentioned = the subject which is continued in the discussion (continuative): Mt 3:3 hOUTOS (John 1f.) GAR ESTIN hO hRHQEIS … etc.; and especially to introduce what is to be narrated about a person after an introduction and description: Mt 27:57f. ANQRWPOS PLOUSIOS APOS ARIMAQAIAS … HOUTOS PROSELQWN …. (2) hOUTOS is very common in the main clause with reference to the preceding subordinate clause: Mt 10:22 hO DE hUPOMEINAS EIS TELOS, hOUTOS SWQHSETAI. (3) On the other hand, hOUTOS (TOIOUTOS likewise) is seldom used to point to a following clause (hOUTOS hOS … Lk 5:21, TOUTOUS hOSOI H 2:15); only τοῦτο is somewhat more frequently used as preparation for a subordinate clause with hOTI , hINA etc. or for an infinitive or substantive (examples in Pernot, Études 50f., 62, 119, 144f.). (4) Paul frequently has AUTO TOUTO ‘just this (and
nothing else)’; he also uses it adverbially (§160) = ‘for this very reason’ (2 C 2:3) (Bauer s.v. AUTOS 1 h). (5) TOUTO MEN … TOUTO DE … ‘on the one hand … on the other, not only … but also’ is also adverbial H 10:33 (Attic; literary language), further KAI TOUTO like Latin idque ‘and at that, and especially’ (Attic KAI TAUTA, K.–G. i 647). (6) hOUTOS appears to be used in a contemptuous sense (like iste) of a person present: Lk 15:30 hO uiOS SOU hOUTOS.

Blass, F., Debrunner, A., & Funk, R. W. (1961). A Greek grammar of the New Testament and other early Christian literature (151). Chicago: University of Chicago Press.

Note especially (2) in this section. EI TI hETERWS FRONEITE precedes TOUTO as is there stated.

Phi 3:15

hOSOI OUN TELEIOI
TOUTO FRONWMEN
KAI EI IT hETERWS FRONEITE
KAI TOUTO hO QEOS hUMIN APOKALUYEI

Can you help me find what is the referent of TOUTO on the last line?
Is it same as the one on the 2nd line, which is what Paul said in v.
13 & v. 14?

Unlike others, NET tries to clarify by rendering it as 'error of your
ways' with a footnote which reads:

"The referent of the pronoun "this" is the fact that the person is
thinking differently than Paul does."

How can I be sure of it?

Thanks for your help.

Oun Kwon.
