THAT YOU MAY KNOW AND YOU MAY KNOW Jn. 10:38
hINA GNWTE KAI GINWSKHTE hOTI EN EMOI hO PATHR KAGW EN TW PATRI.
I am interested in getting everyone's insights into this hINA clause in John
10:38. We first have a subjunctive aorist active second person plural
followed by a subjunctive present active second person plural. Both could be
translated "you may know." The textual history seems to indicate some discomfort
with a double "you may know" with some copyists omitting it (if it was
older), or others replacing it with PISTEUSHTE (if GINWSKHTE was older). I have
never been satisfied with the standard translations. Is there more here?
