On re-reading the passage together with the following verses (Mt. 1:19-20),
I'll buy that. Which pretty much clinches the middle sense of hEUREQH for
me. Originally taking hEUREQH as passive, I couldn't think of a reason why
it would be expressed as passive unless she had been found to be pregnant by
more than one person, and the minimum number of folks finding it out seemed
to be Mary and Joseph. Somehow I expected my readers to follow me in
excepting Joseph from the EK PNEUMATOS hAGIOU part of the discovery, but
that just doesn't work.
