it looks like it might communicate through an English medium.
For the record,
and showing how close things were 2000 years ago to the modern system,
the vowel phonemes would have sounded
(using your ASCII scheme, and adding ''y"
for a sound of [i] made with rounded lips, like German ü):
_khi - RO - gra -fon tys DTHOG - ma -sin_
This [tys] is close to MG [tis]
and someone without [y] in their hearing apparatus would often hear it
as the "same", especially when expecting [i].
