I note that in his Word Commentary on Hebrews, William Lane states that
AUTOU in the expression EN TAIS hHMERAIS THS SARKOS AUTOU in Heb. 5:7
should be construed as related to TAIS hHMERAIS and not to THS SARKOUS
and consequently should be rendered "in his flesh days", not "in the
days of his flesh".
What grammatical/syntactical considerations, if any, support this?
And even if the expression means "in the days of his flesh", is there
any conceivable reason to suppose that this is not a reference to Jesus'
days on earth?
Does anyone have Peter Ellingworth's Handbook for Translators of Hebrews
on hand to tell me what he says on this matter?
Yours,
Jeffrey
