I think the basis for QEOS retaining a definite force in 1:1, although
standing anarthorus and in forward position is John's own grammar in
1:18--QEON OUDEIS EWRAKEN PANTOTE. The writer does an excellent job
wrestling with the incarnation, which future generations did not always
grasp.

As far as John using Semitic thought patterns, I wonder if the synonymy and
play on words used throughout this Gospel could be so easily accomplished in
either Hebrew or Aramaic, as it is in Greek.
