Mitch,

Can you tell us what resources or commentaries make this claim?  Do they 
offer any evidence for that claim?  Is this in the context of a gloss, 
or a broad definition?

With only the information given so far, I wouldn't take a commentary 
seriously unless it can explain from whence the idea comes.  Depending 
on what commentaries you're talking about, some of them have root 
fallacies all over the place and maybe every other kind of fallacy it's 
possible to have.

Basically, if the word can be shown to have a certain meaning, BDAG is 
going to have something about it.  Otherwise your commentary may be 
blowing smoke.
