>Sorry I meant that to be 'minus future', not just 'future' (the en dash I
used disappeared). 'Minus future' does not mean '+past tense'.>
Thanks. that clears things up a misunderstanding.
Your last sentence can also be converted into a true statement:
'Minus future' includes '+past tense'
We're dealling with 'sets' here.
The semantic pie and Greek structural grids (fuzzy slices) are bigger
than just +future and +past, of course.
I've got to get ready to fill a class with 100 minutes of Greek
airwaves tonight. (Yes, it still takes me prep time!) You will be
happy to know that I will studiously avoid words like 'future' and
'past'. Even though within a few weeks the students may hear labels
like AORISTOS and O MELLWN XRONOS, they only hear those as an
afterthought, after they start using pieces of the system.
(I make a deal with the students--I'll let them make 30,000 mistakes
if I'm allowed to make 10,000. Only human beings could ever learn a
language like that!)
