29 OUXI DUO STROUQIA ASSARIOU PWLEITAI? KAI hEN EC AUTWN OU PESEITAI EPI THN GHN ANEU TOU PATROS hUMWN.
30 hUMWN DE KAI hAI TRIXES THS KEFALHS PASAI HRIQMHMENAI EISIN.
31 MH OUN FOBEISQE; POLLWN STROUQIWN DIAFERETE hUMEIS.
I tend to dislike the use of the word "omission" in such a context since it tends to imply that something originally in the text has been left out. After consulting the NA27, Stephanus, and the Byz Maj texts as well as Tischendorf (Metzger has nothing on this verse), I see that no MSS appear to have ever included such a reading. I assume therefore that you are referring the failure to specifically state certain things which are expected to be clearly understood by the audience. In the case of this passage it would seem that the idea which is unstated is that people are of more value than (διαφέρετε ὑμεῖς [DIAFERETE hUMEIS] common birds of which God does take note. The understood factor would therefore be something to the effect of "without God's caring / willing" (not simply knowledge).

Why would a Greek writer omit "the knowledge" or
whatever is to be supplied) in the final phrase? In
other words, what's the writer intending to
communicate by such an omission?
