I would think that Webster's Collegiate might be very useful for  
beginners, but hardly the Third New International Dictionary of the  
English Language [UNABRIDGED] (Hardcover). It should be remembered,  
however, that ESL students are not learning just to READ, much less  
TRANSLATE, English texts. ESL involves, according to one source I've  
checked, "listening, grammar, comprehension, and dictation exercises."  
That's the way that Randall Buth teaches Koine Greek.
