Perhaps the middle voice is echoing IDIOU in TOU IDIOU hAIMATOS, Hebrews 
9:12.  Since it was his own blood, he was affected, hence the middle voice.

By contrast the high priest in Heb 9:7 was offering the blood of an animal.
