Here's another message that should have come on to the list but
slipped through the cracks. I'm going to post it and respond to it at
the same time:

Phil 1:3-4: EUCARISTW TWi QEWi MOU EPI PASHi THi MNEIAi hUMWN,
PANTOTE EN PASHi DEHSEI MOU hUPER PANTWN hUMWN, META CARAS THN DEHSIN
POIOUMENOS ...

First-time User
Sorry but I haven't figured out about the UTF-8 for Firefox/Yahoo just
yet. Any hints on that would be appreciated. But my real question is
about Phil 1:3-4 and PANTOTE EN PASHi DEHSEI MOU hUPER PANTWN hUMWN.
Every translation I have seen has this phrase modifying POIOUMENOS. Is
there any reason why it cannot modify EUCARISTW? If it can modify
EUCARISTW, then what tips the balance so heavily in favour of
POIOUMENOS?

Grace and Peace to you.

UTF-8 Text: Εὐχαριστῶ τῷ θεῷ μου ἐπὶ
πάσῃ τῇ μνείᾳ ὑμῶν 4 πάντοτε ἐν
πάσῃ δεήσει μου ὑπὲρ πάντων ὑμῶν,
μετὰ χαρᾶς τὴν δέησιν ποιούμενος ...

This is actually something of a "run-on sentence", inasmuch as
POIOUMENOS itself is followed by another adverbial phrase, and then,
in verse 6 by another participial phrase, πεποιθὼς αὐτὸ
τοῦτο, ὅτι ... (PEPOIQWS AUTO TOUTO , hOTI ... ).

I think you should note first that THN DEHSIN POIOUMENOS is linked to
the initial EUCARISTW. However, POIOUMENOS has DEHSIN as its object,
and for that reason it does seem to make sense to link EN PASHi DEHSEI
MOU with DEHSIN POIOUMENOS.
