JND Kelly[1] "Both exegeses make good sense and are syntactically
possible" Note, however, Kelly supports the traditional understanding,
that Jude's epistle wasn't exactly what he had in mind originally.
I don't see any reason based on syntax or semantics to suggest a stark
disjunction between original purpose and actual writing of the
epistle. Regarding the often mentioned progression from the present
PASAN SPOUDHN POIOUMENOS GRAFEIN hUMIN to the aorist ANAGKHN ESCON
GRAYAI hUMIN, this indicates that the Jude's intention to write was a
state or condition having some duration whereas the actual writing was
motivated by an event, some new and pressing danger which needed
immediate attention. The present participle + infinitive establishes
the narrative frame work, the aorist participle + infinitive depicts
the action within that framework.
