 I think that is exactly the point of the text here except that their
reason for appearing SKUQROPOI is not because they are aching or
because they are grieving because of a death in the family or
something, but because they want others to think they are
uncomfortable because of the sacrifices they are making in their
service to God.  I don't think SKUQRWPOS refers to a specific "look of
fasting" but if those outwardly most pious people have the same gloomy
look about them at regular intervalls coinciding with the regular
fasts, others will be able to tell that such and so is fasting again.
