> Hi, Steve --
... However, I can't
figure out whether this is, indeed, the true form for GRAFW's second future
participle, since it does not occur in the NT. This is where other reference
sources may come in handy for extra-biblical literature.>
[RB]
by chance,
you will find a MELLOYSA PAQHTIKH METOXH of
GRAPSAI/GRAFEIN
at Jos Ant 1.20, the form uses the expected FI-HTA-SIGMA
γραφησομενων
GRAFHSOMENWN
The future participle was used for intention in Greek and pretty much dropped
out of use in colloquial speech where subjunctive clauses with INA and
prepositional infinitive phrases in various flavors could cover the
same ground.
Hence their paucity in the GNT. It is 13 times in GNT, five of which
are in Acts
(four in '2Acts' 16-28 where we see the real Lucan style), two in Hebrews.
Note John 21:25 in the WestcottHort tradition where a future infiinitive is
combined with a participle,
χωρησειν τα γραφομενα
XWRHSEIN TA GRAFOMENA ... which would contain the things being written
where theoretically a future participle could have been used:
χωρησαι τα γραφησομενα
XWRHSAI TA GRAFHSOMENA
... to contain what would be written.
