John 9:2 καὶ ἠρώτησαν αὐτὸν οἱ μαθηταὶ  
αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· ῥαββί, τίς ἥμαρτεν,  
οὗτος ἢ οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ, ἵνα τυφλὸς  
γεννηθῇ;  3 ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς· οὔτε  
οὗτος ἥμαρτεν οὔτε οἱ γονεῖς αὐτοῦ,  
ἀλλ᾿ ἵνα φανερωθῇ τὰ ἔργα τοῦ θεοῦ  
ἐν αὐτῷ.  4 ἡμᾶς δεῖ ἐργάζεσθαι τὰ  
ἔργα τοῦ πέμψαντός με ἕως ἡμέρα  
ἐστίν· ἔρχεται νὺξ ὅτε οὐδεὶς  
δύναται ἐργάζεσθαι.

I agree. We see here a well formed structure and semantically cohesive  
sentence   OUTE ... OUTE  ... hINA ... AUTWi. The topic under  
discussion is  TIS hHMARTEN; or why is this man blind? In verse four  
there is a clear break in the thought, the question, why is this man  
blind?, is completely dropped. In verse four we see a fronted pronoun  
hHMAS  the subject of  DEI ERGAZESQAI introducing a general statement  
that has little or nothing to do with the question of the disciples  
TIS hHMARTEN;.
