It is because the verb EGEIROMAI is essentially middle (commonly
termed "deponent") meaning "wake up" or "rise up"; the -QH- forms,
although traditionally taught as being "passive" are really both middle
and passive and have to be interpreted in terms of the characteristic
usage of the particular verb in question.
