In this metaphor wouldn't the flesh pertains more to that which is sown--rather than flesh being the field--since the field has little effect on what kind of fruit is reaped?

Hence, if one sows fleshly things ("sows in the flesh") he reaps fleshly things; if he sows spiritual things, he reaps spiritual things.
