hey,
DOKSATE TAN ThEAN is not closer to Paul, though maybe to Homer
or Leonidas.
(admittedly, Erasmian-systems have not been 'restored Attic',
if you really meant the latter. And if in a 'cleaning up'
mode, then one would be free to clean up.)

everyone can build their own cocoon. no problem. And I'm
sure a Greek or two have made their 'dvorak'-type.
But it is nice to think of connections with language
communities, too. I think that Biblical Studies has been hurt
too long by separating the languages from the communities.
Which is why I would not want to add symbolic distance when
there is an opportunity to bridge things and bring students
into an awareness that there is a larger community and
history at work.

This thread might be revealing some unease at being
connected to the larger language communities. Why the
resistance? Why do so many professionals end up hooked on
their difference while staying away from the larger
communities? I admit that there is no causation here, but
me thinks that there may be a correlation.
