I looked the passage up and decided to add that the antecedent of the touto has
to be the tuntec0ai = typtesthae of the preceding sentence.

Quick Note regarding so-called Inceptive Imperfects.
The choice of "began to ..." as a translation often seems to put so much
emphasis on the initiation of the process that, rather than be equivalent to
the inclusion of a beginning, it becomes an exclusion of the continuation. I
don't want to enter the discussion, because the terminology has become
hopelessly obfuscatory.
