This Feature page is where you will find some files which are useful to anyone studying China, its history or its people.

The Electronic Library section has been moved into this area as part of the navigational restructure of the website. The Editorial Review Board is not comfortable with this relocation, but it will serve until a more suitable spot can be found. Until then, enjoy!

AR PL KaitiM Big5

1- This font is showing traditional characters, however, it is necessary to use the GB encoded characters or simplified characters, then apply the font to those characters in order to show traditional characters in this font.  If this font is applied to any BIG5 encoded characters, only characters which exist in both GB and BIG5 encoding will be affected.

2- This font is showing simplified characters, however, it is necessary to use the BIG5 encoded characters or traditional characters, then apply the font to those characters in order to show simplified characters in this font.  If this font is applied to any GB encoded characters, only characters which exist in both BIG5 and GB encoding will be affected.

3- This font can only be applied to BIG5 encoded characters.

4- This font can only be applied to GB encoded characters.

5- When applying this font to characters, it is necessary to separate each character with a space.  Otherwise, the characters become cluttered together.

6- The name of the font in the table above is really inconsequential.  The 'Font List Name' indicates how the font will appear in the list where other fonts reside in any given program.  It has been my experience that these fonts generally work in MS Access 2000, XP and 2003, MS Excel 2000, XP and 2003.  MS Word, any version, has been difficult in using this font.  However, should the need arise to use these fonts in Word, the characters can be input into one of the applications that the fonts work in, and then copied and pasted into Word, using the 'Paste Special' option in the 'edit' menu, then choosing 'Paste as Picture' option.

Usage Notes- When downloading, it is advised that the file be saved on the desktop.  WinZip or another application that is compatible with the .zip format is required to 'unzip' or 'extract' the fonts from the .zip file.  Follow your application's directions to extract or unzip and instruct the process to the 'font' folder that the computer commonly uses for references to fonts.

The entire process can be complicated.  If you run into any trouble, please contact me, or send a direct email and I will try to do my very best to provide any help I can.
