Smoky Mountain Dairy Goat Association was founded July, 1975, and is East Tennessee's oldest goat club. Our mission is to educate people wishing to learn about goats in general and dairy goats in paticular. Anyone interested in any kind of goat is welcome to attend and join or club.
Each year we sponsor the gift of a goat to the Heifer Project International project through money raised and donated by members. We meet the second Saturday of the month at a member's home to share a potluck lunch and an educational topic presentation. Past topics have been: meat/dairy goat nutritional requirements, soap making, showmanship, Boer goats, and use of electric milking machine.
Each year we participate in events in the Knoxville area: the Dogwood Art Festivial, University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine Open House, Knoxville Exotic Exposition, Knoxville TVA & I Fair Dairy Goat Show, as well as various county Ag Farm Days. If you get to Knoxville, April-November check out Ijams Nature Center's brush control project: goats and "Luke" a Great Pyranees! This project is sponsored by members of SMDGA. All people, young and old are welcomed!
