Puck – What Fools These Mortals Be!

– Keppler, a Austrian immigrant, started Puck as German-language weekly in 1876 and followed with an English version the following year. The comic magazine was a pioneer in the use of color illustrations.

– Independent, but Democratic leanings by 1880

– "Tattooed Man" series, drawn primarily by Bernhard Gillam, savaged Blaine for his alleged corruption while in Congress

– Blaine threatened to sue Puck for libel but was talked out of it by friends
