Assumption 1: The Volume is Constant

The first assumption we are going to make is that the control volume we are monitoring remains constant with respect to time. This is generally a good assumption. Consider how little the volume of a lake will change over time in comparison to its total volume. The change in volume is usually negligible. Therefore we can make the simplification V(t) = V, where V is a constant. Thus our equation changes from
