A Generic IVP
You can head straight for the simulator or
read the hints below if you're not sure how to proceed.
This page allows you to simulate a generic initial value problem for
lake pollution. The simulator below will allow all of the variables
we have discussed to be entered. (It's really no different from the
first order reaction sinusoidal initial value problem.) This
simulator is provided as a quick way for a number of problems to be
solved.
Some hints:
- To Simulate an Impulse input:

- Set a to zero (there is no amplitude, as it's not
sinusoidal);
- Set T to one (or any non-zero number; the period
is not important since there is no sinusoidal component);
- Set C0 to the impulse input level;
- Set Ci to zero (there is no further
contamination input in a pulse model);
- Set the remaining variables.
- To Simulate a Step input:

- Set a to zero (there is no amplitude, as it's not
sinusoidal);
- Set T to one (or any non-zero number; the period
is not important since there is no sinusoidal component);
- Set Ci to the step input concentration;
- Set C0 to zero;
- Set the remaining variables.
- To Simulate a Sinusoidal input:
- Set all the variables. (Really, the first order sinusoidal
IVP is the general IVP.)
