Modeling Air Pollution in a City

Below is a crude simulation of tracking a contaminant in the air of a city. The overall concept is the same as performing a mass balance to track a contaminant in a lake.

We have mass being generated (think of the reaction term in our lake model), the initial mass in the air of the city M0, some mass leaving the city (the control volume) and some mass entering the city from outside Min.

Final mass = Initial mass + mass entering - mass exiting + mass being generated - mass decaying/reacting
- or -
Rate of Accumulation = Rate of Mass entering - Rate of mass exiting + Rate of reactions
