[nafex] NAFEX 2001 Meeting



Dear Group,

     The following is the current information concerning the combined Home
Orchard Society-NAFEX annual meeting for 2001.  Additional material
including the lecture schedule and registration forms will eventually appear
on our website and in Pomona.

     Conference headquarters will be the Comfort Suites Hotel, 15929 S.E.
McKinley Ave., Clackamas, Oregon 97015, phone 503-723-3450, fax
503-723-3449.  Clackamas is a suburb of Portland and the Portland
International Airport is the designation for entry and car rental.  This
hotel is near I-205, a major freeway from the airport.

     A hospitality suite for registration will be open from 5-9 PM, Tuesday
evening, September 11.  The first event is an all day tour for Wednesday,
September 12, which will be a bus tour up the Columbia River Gorge to the
Hood River and the Mid Columbia Research Station with its extensive
plantings of apple and pear.  A second stop that day will be a large,
organic fruit farm.  A box lunch is included.  Thursday, September 13 is the
all-day educational program which will be held at Still Meadow Conference
Center, Carver, Oregon.  The luncheon and evening banquet will also be at
this location.  We tour again on Friday, September 14, to Salem and to the
USDA Germplasm Repository at Corvallis.  This is the Noah's Ark for pears
but also houses quince, pawpaws, hardy kiwi and other plants.  We will also
visit Lucille Whitman's Nursery and lunch at her place.  For people who
can't get enough touring, Saturday, September 15 will feature an open house
by the Home Orchard Society at their Arboretum, located at Clackamas
Community College.
