[nafex] Chip budding question (after graft care)

I attempted (once again) to do some chip budding. My scionwood was
doubtfull as it had been gathered in the spring, but it appeared to
be alive, and I thought it might be worth a try. I attempted
persimmon and peach.

My method: match up a chip bud to understock. Wrapped bud graft
with rubber band (trying not to damage the bud) Then covered whole
graft with the budding tape and sealed the budding tape with
electrical tape.

Questions: What is a good sign that the graft may have taken
(besides actual growth)? Yesterday I temporarily removed the budding
tape from the persimmon grafts. The buds still looked good, but I
did not see any white line of tissue growth in the small exposed V
beneath the bud where it contacted the understock (portion of the
chip not covered by the rubber band).

Since this was a fall graft, should I leave the budding tape on or
remove it? Should the rubber band be removed or left? I looked up
information in a number of sources, but couldn't find any clear
advice.

Thanks,
