I agree about Consort. it is not very good. Ben Lomand and Ben Sarek are much 
better, higher yielding and have much more palatable taste.

Red currants vary more in taste from almost ripe to ripe than from variety to 
variety. Most turn completely red before they are fully ripe and are often 
harvested somewhat under-ripe.

Gooseberry/apple and bleck currant/apple are both excellent as pies or jams.
