Here in central PA, the old timers tell me that wild paw-paws were very
common along the base of the mountains when they were kids. Now they are
very rare. I have seen only one small tree in a neighboring county several
years ago. They blame their dissappearance on the spread of black walnut
trees. However, I know one guy here who grows lots of paw paws in his
backyard.
