Re: [compost_tea] Bio-cides

Toxic materials are bio-cidal.  Which biology they kill depends on the material.

AACT - actively aerated compost tea - does not result in toxic materials, and thus the mechanism for protection is not a biocidal one.  Protection is because the organisms use up the food resources that would be used by non-beneficial organisms.  Plant surfaces are protected by the fact they are covered by the layer of organisms that result in disease, or toxins, from reaching the plant surface.  Protozoa and nematodes on the plant surfaces, drawn there because bacteria and fungi are in high biomass levels, consume the diseases and pests.  All the infection sites for the disease causing organisms are occurpied.

No toxic interactions.

If you are going to use anaerobic materials, then you have toxic effects, some of which are toxic to human beings.  The EPA will get involved in controlling that material, because you are dealing with toxins.
