molasses, have a look. Right, 2oz. is not much in 25 gals but the
tea was analysed and had good numbers for both active and total
bacteria. Active bacteria at 200ppm is only about 0.67 ounces of
bacteria in 25 gals. It's not hard to imagine that 2 oz. of sugar
can grow way more than 0.67 ounces of total bacteria. It goes
something like this for 25 gals of tea:

0.000200 (200ppm recommended active bacteria) = 0.668oz. AB

<><><><><><<>Hey Dave, So using the above calculation(example) the
bacteria are weighed. Is that right? 200ppm active bacteria in 25
gallons water weigh 0.67 oz. Would they be dried or as is, basis?
That's interesting. Dennis

I'm not sure why the basic recipe in the Compost Tea Brewing Manual
calls for 16 ounces of molasses/50 gal brew. It will certainly grow
a lot of bacteia at just 0.2 percent of 50 gals. I understand that
the 5% rate is meant to actually inhibit the bacteria for a fungal
brew.

0,06% molasses? that would be far from the 5% I recall reading as a
max. here in this forum...

I can filter five gallons about as quickly as it comes out of my 50
gal tank, maybe 30 seconds. I put the 5 gal pail below the brewer
outlet valve and hold the filter bag so the stream of tea passes
through it. A little shaking is needed sometimes to keep the
materials moving to the bottom of the bag. I don't substitute
anything for molasses, just use less of it. I've had good SFI
numbers using 2oz. molasses in 25 gals of tea starting with a few
pounds of vermicompost.
