Dan,

If you are like me, as a home gardener, I want to get a crop out with the l=
east work possible yet have a great yield.

An indepth soil analysis may be not needed if pre-innoculate your seeds and=
 transplants with a blend of liquid extracts, from composts and vermicompos=
ts, which will contain a wide range of dormant biology just waiting to be a=
wakened by the root exudates from your vegees and weekly low concentration =
fertilization.

The vegees will choose who they want to live in their ZONE. They have thei=
r own real estate zoning code.

I do use nitrogen fixing and mineral solubilizing microbes (i.e. dormant sp=
ores) along with the extract liquids in an effort to pad my bet.

I feel, as a home gardener, I can be happy with 'good enough' and not have =
to be 'exactly right'. I know the plants will make their own appropriate c=
hoices.

Thus knowing what microbes are in the soil may not be as helpful as knowing=
 what microbes are sleeping with your spinach or tomato. The root dwelling =
microbial-plant interactions are more important.

Another approach I use is to divide my garden into 2 parts (A and B). This =
year I grow in the 'A' section while I amend the dormant 'B' section with f=
ermented kitchen residue. Next year I will grow in the 'B' section and amen=
d the 'A' section. The dormant section will be dormant for over 1 year whi=
ch gives it time to rest and rejuvenate.

Now I do grow on top of the soil in the 'B' section by covering the ground =
with weed barrier cloth and using containerized vegee plants. No use loosin=
g yield space.

In addition, consider companion planting for an additional dimension of ben=
efit.
