There likely will be a loss of some microbes but microorganisms are resilia=
nt, as Stephen has stated.
Protozoa will form cysts which can survive an unknown period until moisture=
and good (homeostatic) conditions return.
Most of the bacteria (eg. Lactobaccilus, etc) found in soil/compost sporula=
te or form cysts or otherwise go dormant until homeostatic conditions retur=
n
As stated fungi create spores
Nematodes lay eggs
In test I have run rehydrating and feeding bone dry [vermi]compost and peat=
moss, I've usually observed a full complement of organisms [excluding nema=
todes] within 72 hours.
