  Elaine and others,

I will not be able to go to the composting council meeting. I was interes=
ted in hearing the presentations from the Europeans. There are quite a few,=
and all quality based!!! Their approach to composting (as a blanket state=
ment) seems to assume they are working with materials to make a good agricu=
ltural product as opposed to here, it is generally a waste reduction by-pro=
duct. I looked at the flyer again, and see your presentation!!! "Control of=
Powdery Mildew on Grapes by Compost Tea Applications in Oregon Vineyards".=
I'd like to hear that. Has this been published somewhere? How can I get a =
copy? Anyhow, glad to here your views on CT will be represented!!!! And, ve=
ry interesting to hear about Cindy Salter. Thanks for the info. very intere=
sting...

I also notice there are 2 sessions on Clopryalid. Have you done any work =
to see if CT has any effect on Clopryalid contaminated compost? We don't ha=
ve the Clopryalid use here in the eastern mid-west, but farmers will use ov=
er the label rate of 2-4-D, which will cause herbicide burn in peppers and =
peas the following year if used as mulch (my experience last season). I don=
't seem to have problems composting, given it heats okay... I've never tes=
ted for residue. I suppose I could do a little trial in pots with compost a=
nd sterile potting mix... We only apply compost to fields going to cereals=
 or grass crops (corn, forage).

Are you going to the US composting council meeting? there will be a s=
econd talk on tea, by a graduate student I work with - Kirk Waterstripe. =
