Thanks Tom.
Nice information on nematodes.
You know I am thinking for the next crop to go with the
new concept of Biofumigation in which you plant a crop
like Fodder Radish or Indian Mustard ( brassicas ) with
a high content of Glycosinolate ( GSL) with high density
like 35 kg of seeds per hectare as a winter crop and then
Plow them under and let the myrosinase enzyme degrade
GSLs into Isothiocyanates (ITCs). Those compounds are
extremely toxic to nematodes and their control is just as good
as a chemical nematicide like Methyl bromide, Vapam, etc…

Hi Jose,
A question on producing chitinase organisms in the worm beds-wasn't
chitian
used to kill root feeding nematodes and if so would they hurt the
nematode
populations in the worm beds? If they don't hurt the beneficial
nematodes
and can produce some insect resistance in the vermicompost I think it
will
be great. Please let us know how this goes.
Thank you,
