[compost_tea] Winter tea
Bob asked about teas in the mild fall.
Well, this Alaskan stops putting tea down when it hits 50 degrees, but I can
tell you I rake all my leaves around my trees and then spray them before I
quit. If the microbes go to sleep below 50 degrees, they hopefully will
wake up next spring and get going. Besides, decay does occur all winter
long.....Doc E has suggested to me that the layer between the snow and the
ground is pretty active and perhaps the best decay occurs in the winter
under those conditions.
In Seattle, however, you have much more mild weather and what you suggest
regarding the "bad microbes" under trees and in strawberry beds getting hit
by the good guys in the tea sure makes sense. In any case, I don't know why
it would hurt!!!!
However, that is not science, I know! Please let us know how your customers
do and what you observe.
Cheers,
Jeff L
