Re: [compost_tea] Growing fungi continued

Hi Jeff  I walked up to some compost that had been undisturbed inside our warehouse for a couple weeks to see what that whtie stuff someone had spilled all over it.  A thin layer of very white almost like snow spreading over the surface.  It's about 45 to 55 degrees in the warehouse.  What is it??  I'm going to send a collection to Elaine to find out.  Bob.   .

Folks,

Re the continuing quest to grow fungi in the compost ( for those who are new
to the list---and there are over 200 now, if you can't grow fungi in your
compost, how are you going to grow fungi in your teas?) You might want to
try this nutrient:

BABY OATMEAL.....and probably regular oatmeal as well.  This weekend I came
across a reference in a medical article  that mentioned the use of "pabulum
oatmeal" as one of the nutrients mixed in with agar to grow fungi.  We had
a small box of "Baby Oatmeal" and off I went. Unlike 'adult' oatmeal, this
stuff looks like Ivory Snow flakes....flat, thin, almost translucent.  Whew,
using a handful of stuff ( I am trying NOT to make this a commercial) with
one teaspoon of the flakes mixed in resulted in visible fungal growth by 24
hours. After 48 hours, there is more fungi  that I have been able to grow.
