Elaine: I agree inasmuch as I understand making CT and different machines,
but I disagree with your implication that no air standards are possible. It
clearly takes more aeration to make 5 gallons of tea than 500 gallons. It
seems to me there are base air rates per volume of water below which we
should not expect good, aerobic tea.
I think having some idea of aeration rates is as important as humate
effects, maybe more important, and I am convinced there is something we can
do to characterize that. It seems to me humate effects may be dependent on
air flow, even, with which I think you might agree. (I do not wish to
disorient the humate testing quest of late, it's very good and encouraging.
I simply want to make a point.)
Does anyone out there know what the rate of aeration is for a 50 gallon
aquarium pump besides the fish? I think so and I think they should tell us.
A 50 gallon aquarium requires much less air than a 50 gallon compost tea
maker, it seems. Bob has stated some numbers and so have others in
describing what they do. Will all tea machine makers tell us about aeration
rates? I think they should, and as they do, I think we'll get a better
handle, independent of specific designs, on what works well and what
doesn't.
Air flow rates are important in making aerated compost teas, darnit (is this
redundant?). We should have some better ideas about what air flow per
volume of water is needed to make good aerobic compost teas.
I suspect as with compost it declines with volume, but I don't know that,
nor can I test it. What's it oughta be, you guys who have better insight?
