On the night prior to full moon, I
dispensed 100 gallons of aerated liquid compost over 6 acres of
daylilies through the irrigation system. I kept a litre sample in a 2 litre
plastic container and it still smells OK after two days. It looked good and
smelled good when I took the sample but why doesn't it "go off"? If
it had high microbe numbers in it wouldn't the stuff start getting pretty smelly
because the aeration has stopped?
Has anyone in the group any experience either
growing Protea and Kangaroo Paws, or have clients, friends etc who are? Proteas
are very susceptible to phytopthera and a neighbour is losing quite a lot to
this disease.
