Hi Jerry
That consultant figured it out - so can you. Think simple! This stuff is not
rocket science despite the efforts of many to make it so. You can make a
real nice seed starter dressing using the materials you listed plus some
liquid fish and molasses. The material cost will run $2 to $4US per litre
and application rate could start around 2 litres per tonne of seed. Make
some and try it in your soil thats the best way to learn this old/new
science. Elaine's reply to your enquiry covers the GROSS application of
these materials to soil and their effect on microbes from overdosing. Why
would we want to do that? You'll find when using these type of materials,
or for that matter more conventional stuff, to stimulate activity in the
soil, less (quantity wise) is usually much better than more.
I dont believe a farmer needs to understand WHY these things MAY have an
effect, half as much as he needs to figure out IF they are Likely to do
something positive in his situation and under what circumstances did it
happen. That means some trials or test plots on the farm and good records of
what you did, and the prevailing conditions. Beyond that let the scientists
argue about the technicalities while we get on with doing it!
Cheers
