Summary and additional thoughts:
I believe we need to have some baseline info on different air/water volumes
and aerobic effects with different (named) nutrients, firstly, and different
(tested) composts, secondly. DO monitored, across a range of air and water
volumes, nutrients and composts, focused on air/water volumes and oxygen.
Eventually, teas tested, as Bob suggests. May involve somewhat differently
defined dependent and independent variables? I think an understanding of
how little air is needed and how much air is useful -- how little for
safety, how much for best tea -- is important and valuable, and feel it's
not been discussed enough. I wonder how useful various amounts of nutrients
and even composts are if we don't have some understanding of how much air in
the water may be needed to use them appropriately. I see air/water volume
ratio as a basic, most controllable variable in making good, safe teas.
Tried to make the case why. Since I'm not in a position to do squat about
it I yap, sometimes too much, I guess. (Aaargh! ...Is that "phew" as in
stinky or as in too many subjects/questions? Hope latter.:)
Also hope you will take it in, use what's useful, and carry on with
discussion as you see fit.
One more point: I said multiple pumps, which I think is a good idea for
several reasons, but if you have only one pump, you could use less water to
increase a/w ratio if you knew compost/nutrient load was going to create
more oxygen demand... OR, have air flow control on the pump. Anyone figured
out how to do that with a conventional air pump? OR, someone mentioned this
here at least once before, I think: DO meter control of variable air flow.
Wouldn't that be great?! (Ya, ok Kirk, shut up. Ok. Done.)

Fantastic, I think... not completely clear on what you're saying. Do you
want to put your research design thinking out ahead of time for some
discussion? I'd think Bittis at 10-15-30-50 gals is better than just 10 and
50, for instance. Or would same water volumes (and containers), varying air
supply be better? Suspect it might. Dunno. And why so many Bittis? I'd
think you'd have more flexibility with Bobos. My six cents.:-)
It's my hope this would not be a Sunday thing... Seems to me making your
methods and results public would gain more credibility than not. Appreciate
the commitment, whatever you decide.
