Yeah, we're kind of stuck with what Yahoo gives us unless we start up a
listserv of our own.
And YES, its very good practice to not open unexpected executables, scripts
or any attachments for that matter (mind you, I did say unexpected
attachments).
Per cookies, they've really been given a bad rap. Mostly by those who don't
really know what they are. There's nothing really wrong with an internet
cookie. Yes, they're planted by a program, but that's all they do... Sit
there to be checked by the program later. Now ActiveX controls and scripts,
those are the nasty ones - but why, I wonder, do they not get the bad rap
that cookies get?? Oh well.
I'm not sure what you are referring to on the digests, I haven't used the
digest method for this group. But if I'm correct in assuming, a link is
provided in the digest message requesting you to download/purchase/other
some software - I'd then suggest that that's just another advertisement
appended to the message. Its how they make their money.
For those of you who think its only Dr E and few others who have this
appended advertisement on their messages, look some more. I've seen places
where Dr E does not have the ad, but I do, or someone else does. If there
is an ad to be placed, and its time to place it (just like TV folks), its
going to be displayed (appended to) on a message. That's just the way it
is.

I've been going thru archives cleaning out yahoo stuff among other things
and I think it's yahoo that's attaching stuff. Maybe some ISPs too - AOL?
Doc often gets ads attached and somehow, Laura, you get ads attached between
the body of your note and your signature regularly! Never have been bugged
by that but it is puzzling.
Has anyone noticed every once in a while on opening the digest, there's a
request to download some kind of software for some unknown purpose? I don't
get it anyway, but it sure feels like a serious system and commercial
intrusion which is clearly coming from yahoo.
Mike -- what's that about? I never download or open unexpected executables
and want to believe that's a good practice. Am I missing something? Yahoo's
insistence on "wide open cookies" at their site also bugs me, but that's
something else, I suppose.
Seems we just gotta live with adware unless we pony up the bucks to get our
own host, hmm?
