Hi Mike -

For plants, you really need to do 1 meter square plots, and count the number of each plant, such as count stems, or plant/size of plant, that you want to know about.  Or do leaf coverage.

Betsy has observed reduction in number of weed plants per area in her pastures, and increase in number of desired grasses.

Make your plot sizes something that gives you good repeatability.  If you only have one weed per square meter, then you need to make the plot sizes 5 meters square, or ten yards square, or something like that.

OK?  Check your local community college, or University or Extension service and chat with a plant ecologist.  They are the most useful to get help on these.
