PERRY, YOUR EXAMPLE of Round Up is worth some thought. Science proved Round Up worked. It took a lot of observation to discover that while in the short term Roujnd Up worked in the long term we are not so sure Round Up is a good part of the ecology or of agriculture.
Nothing against science or useing the scientific method to help learn how and why an observed action works. To excludes anecdotal observation would cripple science. Bob

Hi John,

I'm also a farmer... I wrote about "on farm research" yesterday.... I feel peer review is important but more importantly replicated research is a key to knowing if something works, or if some other factor is creating the positive response... It can either be in your yard or in a field... the deal is... finding out what made the difference. I disagree with you about peer review not being important in agriculture... It will be difficult to find farmers willing to use new technology without having research that precedes it. It is difficult to justify spending a bunch of (or a little) money if there isn't quite a bit of information supporting new technology. Do you think farmers would have sprayed Round-Up on beans if there had not been testing to show it worked??? Lots of peer review and research goes into new technology.
There are a few farmers on the list, but don't hear much from them (me included). Ray Gore, in Idaho, is a consultant active in the "real world" of agronomic uses of tea. He posts every once in a while... and it's great to hear what he has to say .... I'm sure there are others... ask some specific/general questions.......
