Hi John,

I'm also a farmer... I wrote about "on farm research" yesterday.... I feel =
peer review is important but more importantly replicated research is a key =
to knowing if something works, or if some other factor is creating the posi=
tive response... It can either be in your yard or in a field... the deal is=
... finding out what made the difference. I disagree with you about peer re=
view not being important in agriculture... It will be difficult to find far=
mers willing to use new technology without having research that precedes it=
. It is difficult to justify spending a bunch of (or a little) money if the=
re isn't quite a bit of information supporting new technology. Do you think=
farmers would have sprayed Round-Up on beans if there had not been testing=
to show it worked??? Lots of peer review and research goes into new techno=
logy.
There are a few farmers on the list, but don't hear much from them (me incl=
uded). Ray Gore, in Idaho, is a consultant active in the "real world" of ag=
ronomic uses of tea. He posts every once in a while... and it's great to h=
ear what he has to say .... I'm sure there are others... ask some specific/=
general questions.......
