Re: Field pea + hullless oat for forage
A couple things to think about, naked oat groats are high in lipid which
would enhance the energy contant when compared with other feeds.
However, there is some Canadian information that high moisture levels
which may occur in a forage mix and high temperature may increase
hydrolytic rancidity. This would be a more serious problem in
monogastrics if levels are seriously eleveated. Ref is Nontradtional
feed sources for use in swine production, Thacker, P.N. and R. N
Kirkwood, Butterworths, 1990, page 275.
Why is barley hulless and oats is "naked"?
