Assistantship - forage physiology
GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP (M.S.- Plant Sci.)
Forage Grass Physiology/Management
RESEARCH will concern dynamics of timothy growth, development, and quality
in relation to N rates and timing, defoliation schedule, and possibly other
factors. The focus will be on aspects of environmental physiology which
relate to the commercialization of perennial hay crops on erosion-prone
sites in northern Idaho.
TOPICS could include developmental morphology, soil water impacts on plant
performance and composition, NIRS analysis of forage quality, and modelling
of weather risks associated with harvesting high-quality hay. Work will be
conducted primarily in field plots, with excellent opportunities for
additional controlled environment research. There may be opportunities to
work with other species.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have a strong background in plant, soil,
and related sciences and be capable of working independently in field and
laboratory. Experience with research procedures and data analysis desirable.
AVAILABLE June, 1997. Stipends (half-time) begin at $11,119. Nonresident
tuition is waived.
TO APPLY: Please direct inquiries, cover letter, transcripts, GRE scores,
resume, and three letters of reference to Dr. Thomas C. Griggs, Dept. Plant,
Soil, & Entomological Sci., Univ. of Idaho, Moscow, ID 83844-2339, Tel.
